What to Expect on Your Child's First Day
Your child’s first day of school is an exciting time for the whole family. No matter what age, there are some important things you can do to make this day easier on everyone. It is best to prepare your child ahead of time by talking to them about school and what they can expect.
When you get to school you will be greeted by the teachers and staff. They will show you to your child's classroom where you will find a cubbie with your child's name. Next, they will take you on a short tour of the school before joining your child's classmates. The best thing for parents to do is tell the child that they will pick them up after nap time. Then, give them a big hug and kiss goodbye and walk out of the room. Quick goodbyes are best for the child and are proven to reduce seperation anxiety. If your cild becomes upset, the teacher will comfort them with hugs and remind them that mommy and daddy will be back soon. If you feel like you need more information about starting preschool, check out “Tomorrow’s A School Day” on amazon and kindle, or ask our Center Director Miss Hayley about it in person.
The most important thing to remember is to not show your child that you are nervous about leaving them. Even very young children are attuned to the emotions of their parents. Breathe and relax, preschool is very important and your child is in good hands. Remember, call the school as many times as you wish to check on your child. Today preschool, tomorrow college.
